Reseach

How to start researching for new tech blueprints to help with exploring in Astroneer!

To get started with researching you need to build a Research Platform on a node.

This requires 2 pieces of resin to get the node to expand and then 2 compound to build the research station. Once that is build, you need to explore around for unknown items.

Some examples of research-able items:

This unknown item can be found on under some plants.

On some rock formations

Find this green rough circle research item under plants.

Under some rock formations

This can be found under some plants.

You can find this cube research item near solar arrays.

Near thruster objects

This can be found near solar arrays.

Find this under plants that are poisonous.

Tip: If a object is high up or far away try pressing E to extend your reach to grab the item.

Find unknown items by exploring and then bring them to the research station. Place the item in the middle section and then press the button.

Each type of unknown object will provide a new blueprint when first researched then afterwords it will provide a random resource item. Video proof of this mechanic can be found on this video clip.

Unlock-able Blueprints from research include the following:
  • Backpack
    • Filter
    • Power Cells

How to delete saved game from Astroneer?

Guide on how to delete saved games from Astroneer build 0.2.115.0.

Currently the UI for Astroneer doesn't have a way to delete saved games. You can only load up from a save game via the holograms that show up on the space station.

In order for you to delete a save game your going to have to go to the appdata folder for Astroneer and manually delete it from there.

Here are some ways to get to the appdata folder:
  • Open up file explorer
  • Click on Local Disk (C:)
  • Then Folder Users, Then the Username of your PC
  • Then AppData, Local, Astro, Saved, SaveGames
  • Once you reach this point you should be able to see the save games with a timestamp
  • You can delete them by pressing the delete button on keyboard.
Another way to get to the folder, press the win button +r then type %localappdata%/Astro/Saved/SaveGames/

or Press start button, type run, then enter, then type in %localappdata%/Astro/Saved/SaveGames/ then press Ok.

Once you get the correct folder up your save game files will show up by timestamp. You just need to delete which save you want to remove. You can also backup save games at certain points if you want to try something risky. Just copy the save file to another folder, then move it back if you need to restore to a previous point.
